The Art of Being: Embracing Messiness, Receiving Love
Reflections on the Beautiful Chaos of Just Being and Receiving.
Life is a beautiful mess of ebb & flow and I want to be there for every moment of it.
I used to run away from the messiness of sadness and anger.
But I’ve come to realise that without it – life would be dull.
Life IS messy.
There’s no doubt about it.
My mentor once told me, “Let it be messy.”
After I fought back against all my blessings, continuing to cage myself into the 9-5 and not allowing myself to just BE.
I love how Trevor Noah puts it where he talks about his Trini friends “Liming.” My friends and I have been using this term non-stop and I love it. It’s about hanging out together and just being. “You talk, then you don’t talk. You laugh, then you don’t laugh.”
Being requires a certain level of trust.
Trust comes from not having to do it all. It requires surrender. It requires accepting help from others. It requires not being in the driver’s seat of your life.
We are conditioned to DO, DO, DO. What if we just “Be’d”?
I know. I know.
Huh?
Be?
HOW?
I’m still figuring that out myself — but one thing I can tell you is that when you KNOW, when you sit in the KNOWING that you are absolutely and utterly BELOVED by God. You can do no other but be in the presence of Your Saviour and trust that ALL will be alright. And THAT my friend, gives you the freedom, the license, the permission, the ability to BE.
You just KNOW that nothing you can do can change that LOVE. That unconditional love. That love that no human can ever give you fully. The Love that can only come from a perfect Father. A perfect Lover.
Yes yes I hear you, your definition of that is twisted because of what happened to you in the past. So let me put it this way instead –
It’s a LOVE that surpasses ALL UNDERSTANDING. It simply DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.
It flows over you and makes you ugly cry. It releases you from all your inhibitions. It frees you to BE. It loves you as you are. Where you’re at. No matter the circumstance.
And that Love is a Person.
A Person that knows you to your core. Deeply loves you and created you with a deep passion and purpose.
That Person is God.
